Celebrating America

You know we live in a great country. It is by far the best country in the world! I honestly don't think people stop and realize what we have here in this country. We have the best of the best. To prove my point look at how much and what people do in their free time. I know what your thinking, "Free time, who has free time!". But we all have it, we just all choose to use it keeping ourselves busy.

I watch food network whenever I get a chance. I love food, but more than that, I love to watch other people go crazy for their specialty. I watch contests for best BBQ, best Ice Cream, best Salmon, best Wedding Cake, best Sugar Sculpture; It always amazes me. I sit an stare at the TV with pure delight. Sure I may be watching a food network show about a BBQ cookoff but what am I really witnessing is, no, not some Communist Democrat plot to destroy America, but genuine Americans enjoying life! It is as simple as that. These people spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on the BBQ cookoffs traveling our great nation from city to city. They have rituals about how to cook their ribs, chicken or pork fat. They have perfected their spicy rub over years of practice. They come from New York, Tennessee, Missouri, California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas, of course. They haven't given in to the terrorist threats. They are not worried about their mortgage, or even how they are going to pay for their new $10,000 custom BBQ pit. They are worried about whether the weather is going to be nice, they are worried about whether their spouse trimmed the ribs too lean. Their basic needs of security, shelter and food are taken care of. America has provided the opportunity, not a handout, but the opportunity to achieve beyond their basic necessities of life.

The thing is, it is not just about food. You will find this "celebrating" all over America. People coming out by the thousands celebrating family, cars, boats, coins, wines, fishing, hunting, gardening etc... This is an indication of how great we have it here in America. The passion, the excitement, the complete bliss that these people feel toward their celebration is truly a symbol of freedom! It is truly life's simple pleasures that make you smile.

Larry: Capitalism! Perfect another great thing about America.

NickelPlate: Yep, Larry always tells me the story that I fell on his "little" brother. If there is competition involved you better be careful! I never said America didn't have her flaws, but overall America is the best nation.

Capitalism will always win. It is simple human nature.

Ah yes but some people are really woried about everyone else and not themselves. What theydont see is how they have the ability to be that way.

socialism-help everyone, no one has anything(except those in charge(no true socialist, just a social-capitalist to me))

Democracy-everyone helps themselves and can therefore put themselves in a position to help others who cannot.

which has better potential

Nicely said Polack! However, I hate to say "in a perfect world, socialism would work". This is because we should always be striving for perfection. Capitalism is more of a realist point of view it is perfection for human nature. There are always going to be people at the top and people at the bottom. Those at the top are blessed and should realize their blessings and do more to help the less fortunate. By saying “less fortunate” I would like to reiterate I am not talking about a hand out. No one “deserves” a furnished home, cable, DSL, plasma TV’s etc. But those truly less fortunate, those who are currently down on their luck, those who need a hand up, not a hand out!

*Oh, I think he is talking about me here. Hopefully, he sees me as less fortunate and gives me some money. Here, I will try to look pitiful, maybe that will work*

Larry,
No need to TRY to look pitiful! But I still am not giving you any money.
